Sustainable architectural redevelopment in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie
Located in the heart of Louisiana Park, in the Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie borough, the chalet, built in 1966, required major work to revitalize the building. The City of Montreal entrusted Cardin Julien with the mandate to completely redesign and expand the building in order to offer citizens a versatile, welcoming space that is connected to its environment.
A judicious reinterpretation
The project has two major objectives: to bring the building up to code, including universal accessibility, and to redesign the interior to create bright, flexible, and sustainable spaces. The concept offers a judicious reinterpretation of the typical architecture of Montreal park chalets of the era. The intervention aims to preserve the characteristic elements of the existing building—formal simplicity, brick cladding, overhanging roof, and exposed wood framing—while infusing it with a contemporary signature that respects its context.
A responsible construction approach
The project takes a responsible approach, including the reuse of existing components where possible and the choice of sustainable materials. As a firm rooted in the neighborhood, Cardin Julien is proud to contribute to the transformation of this local landmark and to participate in improving the living environment of the residents of Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie.
